CROOKED ROAD

Crooked Road was formed by John Walsh about 15 years ago.  Former members include Mark Ward, Ben Saylor, & Sky Kelsy.  Maura Walsh, Denise Martin and Jim Kerr are the remaining members of Crooked Road. The band has been somewhat inactive for a few years, although the members session together when they can.

They are really excited to play for Galway Days.

DERRY AIRES

The Derry Aires formed in 1994 as part of a Saint Patrick's Day show. Amidst all the serious traditional Irish musicians, there were few singers and none that wanted to perform the songs most requested by the audiences of the time, the true Irish schmaltzy songs like “Danny Boy” and “Galway Bay.”  Following their initial performances, they found themselves in high demand for not only their Irish repertoire, but their tight harmonies and irreverent humor. Over nearly 25 years and several personnel changes, they have retained their original charm and added a myriad of styles to their shows, ranging from contemporary to Celtic and blues to jazz. But all of it with a dash of humor.

The Derry Aires are Peggy Monaghan, Erin Alexander Ingle, and Emily Joyce.

PHILIP PRICE

Philip M. Price is an Irish singer and traditional folk artist who has been collecting, performing, and writing Irish ballads for many years. Throughout his career, Philip has played traditional Irish, American bluegrass, folk, and contemporary music with many bands and artists. Although delighting audiences across Europe, the United States, South America, and Central Asia for the past four decades, this Dublin-born artist began as a grade school choir reject. As Philip grew up in Ireland's ballad boom of the 1960s, he discovered that he had a talent for captivating an audience while belting out a tune. Over many years of singing first by the peat fireside at youth hostels, then at pub sessions across Dublin, and finally on stages across Europe and the U.S., Philip honed his craft as a musical storyteller and a strong, clear, and powerful vocal performer.

WINGS TO FLY

Wings to Fly is an Anchorage based folk band that began as a duo in the early '80's with Shonti Elder, fiddle and Elsa Aegerter, flute and guitar. Later multi-instrumentalist Karl Wilhelmi joined and added his talents. They love to sing three-part harmonies, originals, and some of their favorite contemporary songwriters. Wings to Fly's yearly performances are at the Anchorage Folk Festival and the Alaska State Fair, though they love to play other concerts, and festivals across Alaska.

Shonti Elder has been six times the Alaska State Fair Fiddle champion, has recorded three albums of original music and has produced an acoustic music program on KSKA since 1978! Elsa Aegerter has a rich expressive voice, and thrives on playing the Irish wooden flute, the silver flute and guitar. Karl Wilhelmi is an ace musician on guitar, mandolin, and almost anything with strings.  Karl played guitar for Peggy Monaghan’s Cabaret and has played music for Perserverence Theater and the Anchorage Concert Association performances.

The three are long time Anchorage area performers and music supporters.
